a. What are the top 3 2.0 issues affecting libraries? Why?
LIS professionals are entering a new world where the users/clients have different means to get their information and different ways to view them. This has altered users/clients and libraries work together. In Helen Partrige's article, "Librarian 2.0: It's all in the attitude!" she starts it off with that note, "It needs an LIS professional that is 'better equipped and broadly educated than one just ten years ago.' "
Top three issues affecting libraries:
2. Services libraries needs to be fast and adapt to new technology. As a recent iPad owner I never realize the ease of carrying so many books in a simple little thing has made my life easier. It has helped me carry my school and works documents with me where ever I want to its with me without the huge backpack. This has also lead to other companies to provide the information services I need instantly. I compare County of Los Angeles online book service (not fully developed) to Amazon Kindle. People want now and less click-to-get-there the better. It took me 3 minutes to find a book under the library and 1 minute with Amazon kindle. Process of getting the book, Amazon won immediately with their cloud services. I suggest libraries be open to collaboration if that is what social media is all about working together as:
He or she
works intimately with IT and others disciplines. Librarian 2.0 must be able to
build relationships and partnerships and establish networks with individuals
and groups wherever it is needed. He or she needs to be a team player and be
able to work collaboratively across disciplines.
3. Are librarians to be connected 24/7? As many of you know I work in the
advertising/online world. One thing I say is when it comes to social community
there is no 9am - 5pm schedule, your connected 24/7 and so are the users. We
have to react fast to user's questions, needs and concerns because the more
time passes the user will either leave the community, give negative feedback or
loose interest. That is something I felt Helen Partridge was not noting when
doing the focus group. What I am trying to show is as LIS community becomes
community manager to what extent are they ready to be 24/involved because there
is someone out there who needs information help even at 4: 25 am.b. Describe an article you read and if you agree or disagree with the author and why.
Librarian: 2.0 It's all in the Attitude! by Helen PartridgeI feel the case study followed best practice protocol to really get as much data from the LIS professionals. I do feel by mentioning Library 2.0 there is this narrow mindset placed. Like I mentioned above web 2.0 is old news and we have moved on. I feel the questions so focused more on technology and how its evolving. Through this candidates can incorporate personal experience of their use of modern web technology and LIS practitioners. Overall it’s a good start but there needs to be an understanding of web technologies and how they are classified of web 2.0, social media, cloud, MoSoLo and other categories that are emerging.
c. Do you think it is important for libraries to be using 2.0 tools? Why or why not?
Yes, on a professional and person usage. Its crucial for the professionals as it has affected how they function with the web that contains more information than a chain of libraries. They need to understand as users how are people getting their information.d. How has social software had an impact on your life and work?
A lot, one thing is you find your community you can relate and share stories. For myself I love GTD (getting things done) communities. It has made me better manage being a full time employee, grad school student and maintaining life. Social media has helped many individuals have a sense of not being the only one in whatever the case may be: health, lifestyle, unique interest or networking. All these factors have greatly influenced how I functioned. In conclusion I want to share this video about user experience and why its important to understand this new realm of science when dealing web technologies and maintaning traffic to your website.
